KALO MINA JAN - NEW YEAR, NEW MONTH

KALO MINA JAN - NEW YEAR, NEW MONTH

One of the aspects I both love (and don't love) about the New Year is that it is seen as a fresh start! We make resolutions, lists of things we want to do, lists of things we want to change; we start detox regimes, have a dry January, and sage our houses. It's a time when we can make significant shifts, and it is wonderful!

However, often, we disappoint ourselves because it's not as easy to make all these changes at once. So often, all our good intentions for the year, by February, dwindle.

So, how do we do this? How do we make a change and keep that New Year resolution momentum going throughout the year?

In Greece, at the beginning of each month, on the 1st, you say "Kalo Mina," which means "good month" or "Happy Good Month." That's what I am planning on doing this year! I will have one or two goals for each month, which will hopefully transpire into a habit (3 weeks to change a habit!), so each goal will become a habit. Follow along with me on my "Kalo Mina" quest, as each month, we will concentrate on something different!

This month, it is reset month. Let's get your main meridians to start moving in the right direction!

For our first "Kalo Mina" we will start with simple acupressure points that will kickstart your liver, spleen, kidneys, and stomach from the moment you wake up! Do these in bed before you set foot on the ground.

ACCUPRESSURE POINTS

When you wake up every morning, sit up in bed (set your alarm clock a few minutes early) - put the soles of your feet together and bring your legs in.

1. Press firmly between your 1st and 2nd toe - Liver point - for 30 seconds.

2. Then move to four fingers above your ankle - Spleen point - for 30 seconds firmly

3. Straighten out your legs and work on the point on the outside of your leg under your knee - Stomach point - for 30 seconds firmly.

4.Then, with legs outstretched, bend forward, gently touch your toes, and stretch out your back. Fold your legs and sit cross-legged; gently twist your body from one side to the other.

TIPS & TRICKS

After your acupressure routine, drink a glass of room temperature water kept bedside from the night before. If you practice oil pulling, this is the perfect time! Let us know if you want more information on oil pulling!

PRODUCTS WE RECOMMEND

Liver Lover Tea and Clean Gut Powder

After rising, stretch backward, then head to your kitchen for a glass of warm water with half a lemon and a pinch of pink Himalayan salt or sea salt—a boost for the liver and kidneys. Consider adding Tzo Clean Gut Powder for pure fiber and Vitamin C, promoting gut health, bowel regularity, and supporting the immune system.

For variety, mix Tzo Liver Lover Powder into tea, smoothies, or juice, or even add a teaspoon to your coffee (we'll explore coffee in another Kalo Mina!).

Include a detoxifying food daily in your diet such as beetroots, lemon, grapefruit, green tea, dandelion tea, kale, bok choy, asparagus, avocados, broccoli, and turmeric.
